Pink Your Drink Might Not Be Breast-friendly
Pink ribbons aren’t the only pink products being sold during Breast cancer Awareness Month. But alcoholic beverage makers like Mike’s Hard Lemonade may be pushing the matter too far. USA Today reports that Mike’s Hard Pink Lemonade is now on shelves. Mike’s is giving some of the money to cancer of the breast research. However that can’t hide the truth that both the American Cancer Society and National Cancer Institute are adamant that even moderate alcohol drinking can cause breast cancer. Cries of hypocrisy abound.
Pink your drink in order to understand cancer risks
The majority are confused by Mike’s Hard Pink Lemonade when anything pink, including clothes and make up, are considered good for Breast cancer Awareness Month. Mike’s is not alone. You will find others coming out with pink alcoholic beverages. Due to Breast cancer Awareness Month, reports IndyPosted.com, things for instance pink champagne, pink wine and pink vodka are being marketed by other businesses. The novelty may indeed sell more merchandise, but urging people to “pink their drink” in support of the battle against breast cancer is like tending to war-wounded with rusty knife; you are inserting additional threat to the wound.
Pink Your Drink raises a lot of cash still
Pink vodka and liqueur maker Chambord claim to have earned more than $50,000 in donations for the Breast Cancer Network of Strength so far. Mike’s Hard Pink Lemonade has given more than $500,000 over the past two years to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, based on business president Phil O’Neil. But that doesn’t mean they deserve a medal, says Barbara Brenner of Cancer of the breast Action. USA Today reports Brenner saying that “Anybody trying to sell alcohol to promote Breast cancer Awareness should be ashamed of themselves.”
Cash taken by few of the breast cancer charities
Mike’s Hard Lemonade provides money to the Breast cancer Research Foundation, states USA Today although foundation spokeswoman Anna DeLuca says the organization “in no way, shape or form endorses the consumption of alcohol.” Many other organizations reject donations from alcoholic beverage corporations outright. When they pink their drink, they prefer it to be virgin.
